Selling on Amazon can be highly lucrative. Follow these steps to set up your seller account.

Step 1: Create an Amazon Buying Account

Before setting up a seller account, ensure you have an Amazon buying account or create one at .

Step 2: Go to the Seller Registration Page

Visit and sign in.

Step 3: Enter Required Information

Once signed in, follow the on-screen prompts and fill in the necessary details. For Business Type, most users should select Individual unless registering as a business entity.

Step 4: Complete Your Profile

You’ll be asked to enter: ✅ Personal information ✅ Bank details for payouts

Step 5: Store Setup & Verification

The last two steps involve setting up your store and completing verification. Some applicants may be required to do a video call with an Amazon representative. This process is straightforward and typically quick.


Fulfillment Options: FBA vs. FBM

Amazon sellers can choose between two fulfillment methods:

Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA)

  • You send inventory to Amazon’s warehouses.

  • Amazon stores, ships, and handles customer service for you.

  • Includes Prime shipping (2-day delivery).

  • Storage fees apply but are reasonable unless inventory sits for over 6 months.

Fulfillment by Merchant (FBM)

  • You list products on Amazon but handle storage, shipping, and customer service yourself.

  • No storage fees with Amazon.

  • More control over logistics and customer interactions.

Which One Should You Use?

💡 Use FBM if: ✔️ You want full control over customer experience. ✔️ Your products are large or heavy (to avoid high FBA fees). ✔️ You have existing logistics in place. ✔️ Your inventory turns over slowly.

💡 Use FBA if: ✔️ Your products are small & lightweight (<10 lbs). ✔️ You don’t want to deal with returns or customer service. ✔️ Your inventory sells quickly. ✔️ You lack logistics to handle fulfillment.

💡 Many sellers use BOTH FBA and FBM for different products to maximize benefits.


Selling on Amazon

Step 1: Create or Find a Product Listing

  • You can list a new product or use an existing listing from another seller.

  • Scan the UPC code of your product using the Amazon Seller App or search manually.

Step 2: Check for Restrictions

  • If you are ungated, you can list the item immediately.

  • If you are gated, you will need to apply for approval (refer to our ungating guides).

Step 3: Adding Inventory

  • Use the Amazon Seller App for quick listing or a tool like Inventory Lab for more advanced features.

  • After scanning/selecting a product, you will be asked for a Contribution SKU (helps track your inventory). Example Format: ProductName-Size-Cost-Date

Step 4: Select a Fulfillment Method

  • FBM (Fulfilled by Merchant): You ship the item directly to the customer.

  • FBA (Fulfilled by Amazon): Amazon handles storage and shipping.

Step 5: Set Pricing & Shipping

  • Set a competitive price.

  • Choose a Shipping Group Template (free shipping, expedited, etc.).

Step 6: Finalize Listing

  • Click Save & Finish—Congratulations! 🎉 You just listed your first product!


FBM: Processing an Order

When You Get a Sale, Follow These Steps:

  1. Go to Your Orders Page

  2. Click Buy Shipping

  3. Enter Package Dimensions & Weight

  4. Select Shipping Service

  5. Purchase & Print the Shipping Label

Online Arbitrage (OA): Finding Profitable Products

What is Online Arbitrage?

OA involves buying discounted products from online retailers and reselling them on Amazon for profit.

Sourcing Strategies:

✅ Retailers: Amazon, Walmart, Target, Best Buy, etc. ✅ Use Research Tools: Jungle Scout, Helium 10, AMZScout. ✅ Join Groups & Forums: Facebook Groups, Reddit, Wholesale Central. ✅ Find Wholesale Suppliers: Network with local stores, gas stations, or distributors. ✅ Monitor Price Changes: Use CamelCamelCamel to track Amazon price history. ✅ Optimize Shipping Costs: Build accounts with UPS, USPS, FedEx for better rates.

📌 Facility Transfers: As of 2023, FBA inventory may take up to 2 weeks to move between warehouses. Plan accordingly.


Reverse Sourcing on Amazon (OA Method)

1️⃣ Search for a product on Amazon. 2️⃣ Click the product listing to view details. 3️⃣ Scroll to Other Sellers on Amazon to see different prices. 4️⃣ Use Google to search for cheaper suppliers. 5️⃣ Verify minimum order requirements and shipping costs. 6️⃣ Purchase and list the product on Amazon for resale.
