Setting up IMAP for ACO
What Is IMAP & an App Password?
Before setting up your email for botting, it’s important to understand IMAP and App Passwords, and why both are required.
What Is IMAP?
IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) is a standard email protocol that allows applications to access and manage emails directly from a mail server.
With IMAP, you can:
View and sync emails across multiple devices
Keep emails stored on the server instead of downloading them locally
Manage folders, read/unread status, and message organization
IMAP is supported by most major email providers, including Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, and others but for Divine ACO we will only be accepting GMAIL and Yahoo entries.
Why IMAP Is Required for Botting
When botting (such as account creation, raffle entries, or monitoring inboxes), your bot needs email access to:
Read verification codes and confirmation links
Detect new incoming emails automatically
Complete email verification without manual input
IMAP allows bots to securely monitor and interact with your inbox in real time without having to contact you for every code..
What Is an App Password?
An App Password is a unique password generated by your email provider specifically for third-party apps or bots.
App Passwords:
Allow access to your email via IMAP or SMTP
Bypass two-factor authentication (2FA) for that specific app
Keep your main email password private and secure
Instead of using your normal login credentials, the bot authenticates using this separate password.
Why App Passwords Are Important
Prevents exposing your main email password
Maintains account security while using bot
Required by most providers when 2FA is enabled
Using an App Password is the safest and most reliable way to connect your email to a bot.
Understanding IMAP and App Passwords is essential for a smooth and secure bot setup.
